Going Deeper

Going Deeper Crystal Awareness Weekend Words: Katrina Huntley “I’ve got no earth in me.” So says my astrological chart, and as a Pisces that means my head is in the clouds. Grounding is what I need and stones such as Tourmaline and Hematite with their protecting and calming properties will do just that. This is just one of the things I learnt from Bev and Mario on the Crystal Awareness weekend in Leeds, two full days of self discovery, deep connection and inspirational words. The course covered everything from selecting crystals using scanning, dowsing and muscle testing, to distance healing and geology. In just two days I felt I learnt more about crystals, their origin and their uses than I have done for the years I have been using the precious stones. With just four of us, the group was intimate and friendly, all ladies we came together for two days to practise, learn and heal one another. Liz was my partner for much of the weekend, an enthusiastic IT trainer who had had enough of her career and was ready for a change in direction. As the weekend went on I would soon build up a loving relationship with this wonderfully intuitive and positive lady. The setting for the weekend was Bev and Mario’s home, a big semi-detached in a quiet area of Leeds with a lovely English garden that fell in tiers at the front, a wide green space at the back and Smudge the white and black waiting to greet us. Sessions took place in a separate part of the house where huge bean bags and silk cushions could be used for meditations, (silk doesn’t absorb auric energy I found out) and a kettle for endless cups of tea, oh, and mountains of crystals from all over the World. We really were going to get the opportunity to experiment with crystals we never would normally, some extremely rare, others extremely large and most extremely expensive. We began with techniques for selecting crystals. “I have always just picked the one I thought looked right or that I had read would be good for my problem.” As most people do, Bev confirmed, and intuition is a key factor in selecting the right crystal, but methods such as scanning are very simple and can be an effective form of selecting what is really right for you. We began by rubbing our hands together vigorously to open the charkas in our hands, we then lightly moved our hands over the many crystals laid out on the carpet and were to take note of any changes we felt. “You may feel hot, or cold or a tingle when you are over a certain crystal” said Bev, and sure enough we did, and we began collecting the few crystals that seemed to be calling out. I had never felt this sensation before and almost felt stupid that I had never spent the time actually feeling the energy of the crystals in this way. I just hadn’t thought about it and already a whole new world was beginning to open up. The next method was dowsing, a technique that I had tried before but not found beneficial and tossed to one side. I thought it wasn’t for me. But as I calmed and was patient I saw that the dowser really was moving in certain directions when I asked it questions- and I wasn’t doing anything! I was still a little sceptical as I moved the dowser over the crystals, and everybody seemed to be moving quickly on and I was not getting it. But when I later practised at home I found the technique worked perfectly and I dowsed for crystals that would be appropriate for each area of the house- and really enjoyed doing it. Finally we did muscle testing where working in partners we put a crystal in our partners hand, their arm outstretched, and tested the crystal by pushing their arm up and down to see if it was weaker than or as strong as without the crystal. If it remained strong then the crystal was right for that person and their particular problem. We then picked crystals for a charka balancing using any of the methods we liked. I felt everyone had chosen before me and rushed to get mine chosen, but even in this manner, you will apparently pick the ones you need. I have done charka balancing's on myself for a long time. Selecting a crystal from each colour and placing them on the associated Chakras, stick on the music and off I go. This does produce results and feelings, but over this weekend I learnt that a) you don’t have to use the associated colour with each charka because every charka has all colours in and b) you should ‘feel’ for where the charka is rather than just placing the stone where you think as it may be in a slightly different area than you ‘think’. This ‘feeling’ the energy centres was a new and amazing experience for me. As I worked up Liz’s body with my hand I really could feel a pull at certain area, and although sometimes I felt the pull in the wrong places I found out this was because we actually have many energy centres in the body, so I was finding them, but I needed to concentrate on the strongest points. “That was amazing, I went off” said Liz who came round after the balancing, it was my turn, and even when Liz was only moving her hand up my body- not touching it- I could feel the energy centres, it was an incredibly strong sensation. We had similar if not stronger experiences with the chakra dowsing exercise. Liz told me the crystal was going mad as she came over my third eye- and I could feel it, and after it was like there was something stuck to my forehead for the rest of the day! Lunch time was the opportunity to chat to each other about our everyday lives and be inspired by each others plans. We did our astrological charts and discussed some of the truths and discrepancies we each had with our readings. It was interesting to note there were three Pisces’ in the room, one of whom, Karen confirmed that she already carried grounding crystals around with her to keep her feet on the floor. It seems many of us lack the earth aspect in our sign! The second half of the session involved distance healing grids and distance healing where we were able to successfully send healing energy to each other when separated by a wall, crushing any misconceptions about physical matter making a difference in the movement of energy. On the second day we focused on meditations and really using our intuition to connect with the crystals and feel what they could be used for, on which charkas and with which other crystals. It was interesting to see how many of us had ideas that simply ‘popped into our heads’ yet that were accurate and highly intuitive. Some of us tasted certain crystals, others heard high pitched frequencies, while Trish ended up ‘floating on the ceiling’ as she looked into and connected with the aquamarine. Each person had their own experience and each persons account was valid finding out traits about the crystal that between us covered every aspect. Today we all became aware of how sensitive we really were to the crystals when we were still and connected with them. We discussed which crystals would be useful for certain ailments, based on what we had discovered, and other ideas that ‘sprung to mind’ again producing indisputably intuitive results. It was around this time that we began discussing more about the geology of the crystals, and Bev explained that groups of crystals had similar structures and that when you knew about these structures and how they were formed you were able to make informed decisions about which crystals would work with which parts of the body and which ailments. “The human body is made up of every mineral that exists on earth, therefore different crystals that contain different mineral compositions work with their component area on the body,” said Mario, while Bev confirmed that having knowledge about the crystals is the most important way to diagnose and treat a client if that is what we wished to do. It makes perfect sense, and when this was explained it became apparent that working with crystals was not all airy fairy, in fact it is based on scientific systems, systems that relate directly to our own holistic system (mind, body, spirit). Using clear quartz points we then did a number of experiments to show how energy moves round the body, while I was familiar with the term Chi or life force I had never felt it in such a way, nor did I realise there were hot and cold systems and that the energy moved through the body in a rotating helix manner, rather like the DNA image in science that you often see, another fascinating example of a system reflecting another system. After giving each other gentle hand massages based on the information we had learnt about meridians we did the final relaxation, which I can’t remember because I drifted off! What I do remember is that Bev and Mario were inspiring, “you just have to get to a place of knowing” reminded Bev about our existence and living on this incredible Earth, and the crystals can help with that, “you begin to play with the ideas of space and time and realise that non of it is real, everything will come to you exactly when you need it,” said Mario, wrapping up what we had learnt over the weekend. While I used to doubt my intuition and those little things that popped into my head, now I know to be still and listen, because I am tuning into a higher awareness. Thank you Bev and Mario.
